Stoma-site specimen extraction
My work was just published in Journal of Robotic Surgery: “Stoma site extraction does not increase complication rates in robot-assisted colorectal surgery”!
This is a single-center retrospective study examining stoma-related complications from stoma-site specimen extraction in robotic surgery. I’d like to give a huge thank-you to Dr. Plerhoples (senior author on the study), Dr. Arkadii Sipok for helping with data analysis, and Dr. Tara Van Veen and Dr. Siqi Brough for their assistance with an earlier version of the study. It’s now been published and I hope the results can be incorporated into clinical practice—a separate incision for specimen extraction (in addition to an incision for a stoma) may not be necessary in colorectal surgery, particularly if the stoma will be present less than a year.
